*Topic: Collaborating on the Language Component of the FIE: SI or SLD?
Comprehensive evaluations begin with planning the assessment. As evaluation staff, we tend to see results through our particular lens of the evaluation. However, there is overlap between tests that evaluate for expressive/receptive language and verbal cognition. This session will look at the overlap in commonly used measures, challenges of applying different identification models while using the same data sources, and what happens when the data doesn’t converge.
Afternoon Session: Phuong Lien Palafox, M.S., CCC-SLP
Title: Supporting the Comprehensive Needs of Under-Served and Under-Resourced Communities
As assessment personnel and educators, it is imperative for us to understand culturally-responsive cognitive, behavioral and language assessment considerations for our students living in under-resourced environments. This session will provide an evidence-based foundation to support the comprehensive assessment process, from information intake to assessment to report writing to IEP meeting. Topics will focus on neuroscience, sociological factors and emphasize the important needs of our students and their families. Participants will walk away energized with effective culturally responsive and person-centered strategies to use immediately.
