Author’s Purpose is Not as Easy as P.I.E. 6-12 (Concurrent)
Authors make design choices & craft their writing, often at the word level, with intentions that are nuanced, complex, and go far beyond what “P.I.E.” can reflect. Deep, studied analysis and synthesis of multiple genres, with the goal of examining the techniques & craft moves the authors employ to achieve purpose is what will foster students’ appreciation for their reading, and create pathways to practice craft in their own writing. Participants will walk away with a deeper understanding of the role of the Author’s Purpose & Craft strand in the new TEKS, as well as strategies to help students interact with more complex texts, & engage in higher levels of thinking as they study author’s purpose & craft.
