Drug Impairment Training for Educational Professionals (DITEP)

The DITEP course will enable the secondary educational professional to recognize the signs and symptoms of drug and/or alcohol impairment in order to prevent an impaired student from driving away from campus, and/or to serve as a treatment intervention tool to reduce future instances of DWI. Designed to aid in assessment of drug and/or alcohol impairment in students, participants will learn and be able to utilize skills such as: describing the involvement of drugs in schools and society, defining the term "drug" in the context of the DITEP training, reviewing the signs and symptoms of the seven drug categories, outlining important elements of the Texas Education Code, Texas Penal Code, and creating an effective school policy as it relates to drug and/or alcohol use and possession, identifying circumstances that can produce similar signs of impairment and appropriate intervention procedures. Trainers are certified Drug Recognition Experts.
