This two-day institute will provide tools for improving the lives and skills of school-based SLPs and their student clients. The morning session on Day One will focus on the behavioral and academic outcomes of those living in low socioeconomic environments and those from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds. We will discuss effective strategies for family communication and collaboration, as well as successful intervention strategies. The afternoon session will provide understanding of the relationship between communication and behavior. It will allow those of us who work with students who have behavior challenges to effectively evaluate the functions of problematic behaviors in order to implement strategies that will maximize learning. On Day Two participants will gain how-to strategies to implement effective and efficient evidence-based speech and language interventions during the school year. SLPs will walk away energized and ready to support the individualized needs of students!
