The Kindergarten Literacy Achievement Academy will enhance teachers’ knowledge and skills so they can effectively teach students to develop reading proficiency. The academy will address effective and systematic instructional practices in reading, including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension and the use of empirically validated instructional methods that are appropriate for struggling readers and may address training in effective practices in writing.
Eligible teachers from priority campuses will earn a $350 stipend for the successful completion of the academy.
Reading Academy participants are asked to bring their reading program’s teacher’s edition, a narrative and an expository children’s book.
