Literacy for Little Learners: Phonological Awareness (PK-K)
Blended Session



Phonological awareness is critical for learning to read any alphabetic writing system. And research shows that difficulty with phoneme awareness and other phonological skills is a predictor of poor reading and spelling development. Are you looking for new strategies and activities to support the development of phonological awareness in your classroom? This session will explore phonological awareness concepts in the Prekindergarten Guidelines and Kindergarten ELAR TEKS.  We will explore the phonological awareness continuum and identify developmentally appropriate instructional methods for supporting young learners across the continuum. 


Important Session Information:


Do not miss this opportunity to be part of this innovative Blended Learning PD at Region 12 combining online and face-to-face learning. This 6 hour session includes a brief pre-session activity, 4.5 hours of face-to-face professional development from 9:00am - 2:30pm followed by a 1.5 hour outside learning experience.

Since this blended learning session includes a brief pre-session activity, the registration deadline for the session ends one week prior to the face-to-face date.

Pay careful attention to the start and end times for the face-to-face portion of this session. 

Please bring your own device if possible.

Participants may stay after the conclusion of the face-to-face portion of the session to begin work on the outside learning experience/assignment.

Enhanced Curriculum Co-op can attend at no charge.
