Reading and Writing and Phonics! Oh My! Instructional Implications for Phonics and the ELAR TEKS (K-5)




The new TEKS prompt teachers to interconnect reading, writing, listening, and speaking and intentionally teach phonics through fifth grade. Join this session to build a deeper understanding of the phonological awareness and phonics continuum as related to the new TEKS and learn strategies for focused phonics instruction. Participants will develop their understanding of ways to directly and immediately apply phonics and word study to authentic reading and writing in the K-5 classroom.

Do not miss this opportunity to be part of this innovative Blended Learning PD at Region 12 combining online and face-to-face learning. This 6 hour session includes a brief pre-session activity, 5 hours of face-to-face professional development from 9:00am - 3:00pm followed by a 1 hour outside learning experience.

Please note:

Since this blended learning session includes a brief pre-session activity, the registration deadline for the session ends one week prior to the face-to-face date.

Pay careful attention to the start and end times for the face-to-face portion of this session. 

Please bring your own device if possible.

Participants may stay after the conclusion of the face-to-face portion of the session to begin work on the outside learning experience/assignment.
