This training is specially designed and formulated to focus on the essential foundations of interpreting, but also specifically addresses the role of the interpreter within the public school and special education context. All sessions will build on participants’ prior experiences and will require direct application of skills through discussion, group work and role play. This interactive training is designed for bilingual individuals working in dual roles in school settings – as interpreters and in another primary employment role. In addition, this training is relevant to any staff, administrator, paraprofessionals and or faculty members involved in special education or who interact with Limited English Proficient (LEP) persons in a school setting. Finally, this training will introduce participants to the goals of interpretation for a school based meeting, modes of interpreting, the interpreter's code of ethics, and the types of interpreter roles.
