50 Ideas in 50 minutes!

Having high expectations and providing motivating learning experiences for our students in self-contained classrooms is critical to build self-esteem, increase confidence, and improve communication and social skills. Too often expectations are low and too many things are done to and completed for these students instead of fostering independence and growth. Integrating assistive technology in these classrooms provides the supports that a teacher needs to maximize the learning experience for the students, increase active engagement and build independence.  Attend this session to learn about strategies to maximize student engagement thru the integration of assistive technology during the day.

Objectives:

1.Explain why active engagement is critical to the success of students in the moderate to severe special education classroom.

2.List three specific times of day that access to assistive technology will increase student communication.

3.Discuss how to ensure lesson planning takes in to account integrating technology per activity and per student.
