This course is a book study!  Uniquely Human: A Different Way of Seeing Autism by Barry Prizant, PhD, takes an incomparable approach to the world of autism, focusing on the individual, not the disability.  This book study is a launchpad for understanding the “whys” behind many of the communication, social, and behavioral issues our students with autism and related disabilities deal with every day, and how to address them.  Our goal as we delve into this book together is that we will learn from Dr. Prizant and from our discussions with each other to improve and elevate not only our students’ lives, but our lives as well.

About the book:  “Autism is not an illness.  It’s a different way of being human.  Autistic children and adults progress through developmental stages as we all do.  To help them, we don’t need to "fix" them. We need to understand them and then change ourselves - our beliefs, attitudes, and actions.

Important Session Information:


Do not miss this opportunity to be part of an innovative Book Study/Blended Learning PD, BOOK INCLUDED! This 12 hour session will begin with a brief 2 hours of professional development via ZOOM from 9:00 am - 11:00 am on June 2nd, followed by a 10-hour, outside learning experience, including book study reading requirements and online/virtual assignments.  There will be no face-to-face commitment with this course. Books will be mailed to your home address prior to June 2.

The link to the zoom will be emailed to pre-registered participants prior to June 2.

Certificates for completion of the course will be available after the book study and course closes on July 31 and all requirements have been met.
