The experience of trauma or chronic traumatic stress can manifest in children in many different ways. Further, a student’s cultural context plays a role in how trauma is experienced by the student, how the student reacts, and how the student responds to treatment. Understanding the cultural influence on the expression and treatment of trauma in schools is important to ensure equitable and effective services. Special educators play a key role in identifying trauma related behaviors and helping school staff plan interventions. This webinar will help equip special educators with tools and strategies on how to use a cultural lens when identifying trauma and stressor related behaviors as well as planning supports and interventions. Particular attention will be paid to the experience of school closures on students.
This session will fulfill 3 hours of the cultural diversity requirement for LSSP license renewal.
