Addressing Current Challenges of SLD Evaluations
Session 3: SLD Identification Strategies: Well Planned and Executed FIE’s

The purpose of this series is to equip evaluation personnel for the current challenges regrading SLD identification that revolve around COVID19, the Corrective Action Plan, and over- and under-identification of students. These sessions will be delivered in a blended format in the following sequence

a) study materials delivered one week prior to training (1 hour),

b) the virtual training session (3 hours) ,and

c) follow-up activity- consisting of a brief activity and quiz (2 hours), due one week after.

This sequence allows the learner to distribute their learning, reflect and practice, and make connections to their actual practice.

This session is designed as a four part series.

Important Session Information:

The ‘I” in FIE is “Individual.” A “strategic” approach to SLD identification has many advantages to a “one size-fits all” approach to SLD identification. This session will focus on assessment strategies such as: dynamic assessment, diagnostic interviewing, observation, and curriculum sampling to help educational diagnosticians navigate the identification process. With remote testing and disrupted learning due to COVID, Educational Diagnosticians need additional tools and strategies beyond traditional assessment tools (i.e., Norm-referenced tests).

Participation in the live Zoom meeting is required to receive credit for this session.

This is the third part of a four part series. Subsequent date is 02/10/2021. You may attend any or all sessions; however, if you attend the first three, the fourth session will be free. This discount will be applied upon the close of the fourth session.

This program has been approved for continuing education credit by the Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association (TSHA).  TSHA approval does not imply endorsement of course content, specific products, or clinical procedures.
