Overview of Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, and Dyscalculia, K-12
Virtual Session

The Dear Colleague Letter from October 2015 states that “dyslexia, dysgraphia, or dyscalculia are conditions that could qualify a child as a child with a specific learning disability under the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).”  Due to the increased usage of these terms, this session will provide an overview of the definitions and common characteristics of each area in accordance with state laws and guidelines. Associated underlying ability factors, as defined within the Cattell-Horn-Carroll (CHC) model, will be discussed to help generate a deeper understanding of each academic area.  Additionally, we will discuss instructional accommodations and interventions for the three areas.
