This session will explore best practices regarding the special education bilingual full individual evaluation (FIE) process for English Learners, with an emphasis on Spanish-speaking students. The session will include information on topics such as:
- Gain a brief historical perspective on the field of learning disability identification
- Understand the benefits of using targeted, purposeful assessment practices
- Second Language acquisition
- Understand how to establish language proficiency
- Determine the language in which the evaluation should be completed
- How to utilize data from Dr. Samuel Ortiz's Culture-Language Interpretive Matrix (C-LIM)
