Conducting A Comprehensive Bilingual Evaluation

This session will explore best practices regarding the special education bilingual full individual evaluation (FIE) process for English Learners, with an emphasis on Spanish-speaking students. The session will include information on topics such as:

  • Gain a brief historical perspective on the field of learning disability identification
  • Understand the benefits of using targeted, purposeful assessment practices
  • Second Language acquisition
  • Understand how to establish language proficiency
  • Determine the language in which the evaluation should be completed
  • How to utilize data from Dr. Samuel Ortiz's Culture-Language Interpretive Matrix (C-LIM)
