How can I create lifelong readers, inspire writers, and develop student agency in my RLA classroom? Allow us to suggest book clubs! According to the Teachers College at Columbia University, book clubs:
- Promote a love for literature and a positive attitude towards reading;
- Reflect a student-centered model of literacy
- Encourage extensive and intensive reading;
- Invite natural discussions that lead to student inquiry and critical thinking;
- Support diverse responses to text;
- Foster interaction, cooperation, and collaboration;
- Provide choice and encourage responsibility;
- Expose students to literature from multiple perspectives;
- Nurture reflection and self-evaluation

Whether you are new to book clubs, or if you’re a pro at literature circles, join us for a day of collaboration and learning. We will collaborate face to face for 4 hours and then plan flexibly for 2 hours.
