“I Said No!” Proactive Behavior Supports and Strategies: Hearing the word “No” happens a lot in a preschool classroom but saying the word “No” doesn’t always change an undesirable behavior. This session will help educators and caregivers better understand the relationship between child development and behavior through behavior analysis principles and proactive supports. Participants will come away with skills such as identifying the function(s) of behavior, recognizing antecedents and triggers, and teaching foundational young learner concepts like “wait”, “stop”, or “take turns” in a concrete, reinforcing format. Hear how “No” can be changed to produce desirable behavior outcomes that will have you saying “YES!”
Toilet Training Tips and Tricks: toilet training a child with special needs can be challenging for educators and caregivers. Children may have communication deficits, motor challenges, and sensory issues that interfere with toileting progress and independence. In this workshop, participants will learn about 1) toileting readiness signs, 2) the importance of data collection before, during, and after the process, and 3) strategies to help troubleshoot specific toileting issues and longstanding challenges. With patience and persistence, a successfully potty-trained child is just a flush away!
