Applying for Disability Benefits (Zoom)




Participants will understand the importance of long-term planning and supported decision-making in this three-part series. Presenters will provide resources available to assist transition-aged youth, their families, and educators in planning a productive future before young adults leave the educational system. This series is designed to “de-mystify” issues related to obtaining benefits, earning money, self-advocacy, and getting personal support. 

Important Session Information:


Objectives: Applying for Disability Benefits

Participants will receive an overview of Social Security’s definition of disability and explanations and processes of applying for disability benefits. Young adults and those who support them will hear what to expect after an application is submitted. This is part two of a series of sessions on the following dates:

April 11 - Develop a Person-Centered Plan and Circle of Support 1:00 - 3:00 pm

April 15 -Your Money - Benefits & Work 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

April 17 -  Applying for Disability Benefits 6:00 - 8:00 pm

You may attend any or all sessions but must preregister for each session separately.

This is a Zoom session; the link to connect will be emailed to registered participants the afternoon before and the morning of this session.
