STAAR Math Redesign: Challenging Tasks & Engaging Routines




The redesigned STAAR caused us to rethink how we might better prepare our students for not only the new assessment format, but how to engage learners more deeply in mathematical thinking and reasoning.  In this session of our new STAAR Redesign series, we'll focus on 2 high leverage instructional practices that foster engagement & deeper thinking and reasoning:  Daily Math Routines & Challenging Math Tasks. While routines are meant to jumpstart thinking & engage students immediately, challenging tasks go deeper into math concepts & application. Both of these instructional practices provide opportunities for students to engage with content, apply knowledge & skills, and to participate in meaningful discourse.  Participants will leave with a toolbox of ideas,  moves, and a plan for implementing these within their classroom.
