Digital Citizenship and Social Media Responsibility 101
Sextortion: The New Frontier in Keeping our Kids Safe Online

How long is your digital history? Young people today are faced with the enormous responsibility of knowing what they can or can't, should or shouldn't post online. In this session, participants will learn about the most common applications or "apps" used by youth today, misconceptions of youth regarding social media, pitfalls that can be very costly for their future, and much more. Cyber-bullying and cyber-harassment will be defined and valuable resources will be shared with participants (as educators and as parents) to help keep kids safe online. This training is a must for those working directly with students as our digital world is increasingly in-demand.

Important Session Information:

Today's world contains exciting and great uses for technology. Our kids are growing up at at time that helps them learn faster than any generation before them. However, with these great advancements come great responsibilities concerning their safety. In this course, we will explore the differences in how we grew up prior to the technology "boom", explore trends and resources for better understanding youth and their devices today, understand cyberbullying and online threats, and look at the phenomenon of "sextortion" and how to find help for our students (and our own kids) when they must make choices online.
