Multicultural Awareness: Understanding the National Diversity of Student Cultures in Our Texas Schools
Sharing the World One Class at a Time

Offered by the Texas Juvenile Crime Prevention Center at Prairie View A&M University in partnership with ESC Region 12.

This training offers an introduction to understanding about life in the countries/regions of origin for students who come to Texas schools. We will explore how to help families as they navigate life in the United States; cultural points worth knowing regarding effectively engaging students and parents from these cultures in terms of education and perspectives on mental health. Given Texas immigration demographics, segments of the program will focus on addressing needs for persons from racial and cultural heritages such as: Hispanic (Mexico, Columbia, Central America, Venezuela); African-American, African, Asian and Middle Eastern descent.
