Using Core Selective Process (C-SEP) to Identify a Pattern of Strengths and Weaknesses
Refresher for Current Practitioners of C-SEP

Participants will be introduced to the principles underlying the Core-Selective Evaluation Process (C-SEP) and the basics of the process. This session will also demonstrate how to identify a pattern of strengths and weaknesses (PSW) using the core-selective approach, yielding diagnostically useful, legally defensible information in a time-efficient manner.  C-SEP training will use a case-study format, discussions, and activities to:

1. Review and Discuss the Current Status of SLD Evaluation in Texas: Critical analysis of current practice and rationale for CSEP
2. Understand basic steps of the Core-Selective Evaluation Process (C-SEP)
3. Review types of scoring and viewing results through multiple lenses
4. Integrate Data Analysis/Pattern of Strengths and Weaknesses-Applying Data to TX policy

Important Session Information:

Norm-referenced tests are a helpful tool in identifying learning disabilities. However, evaluators often rely too much on standard score interpretation. To ensure that the tests accurately describe classroom performance and ensure ecological validity, they must be analyzed beyond the standard score level. This session will focus on three other types of analysis to make your tests more generalizable – task demand analysis, contextual analysis, and integrated data analysis. We will also discuss recent policy guidance regarding testing.
