Evaluating for Special Education
Realizing the Power of the Tests of Dyslexia (TOD)




This session aligns with the special education evaluation process, as mandated by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The presentation will expand on legal requirements and provide best practices for assessment tools/instruments and evaluation strategies. It will expand on methods designed to gather comprehensive information to establish the presence of disability criteria, provide recommendations, and inform educational planning.


Important Session Information:


This session will provide participants a hands-on experience to the Tests of Dyslexia (TOD™), which is the first comprehensive assessment of dyslexia, eliminating the need to use tests from different assessments. Composed of three batteries, including a screener, the TOD includes screening and assessing for dyslexia in people ages 5-89. The TOD also includes rating scales designed to capture qualitative indicators of dyslexia. Most importantly, the TOD includes the Dyslexia Interventions and Recommendations guide to help examiners develop IEPs and targeted intervention plans to address specific skill weaknesses. This session is appropriate for reading specialists, educational diagnosticians, school psychologists, and speech–language pathologists. This session requires participants to have the TOD kits in the session. In small groups, participants will engage in hands-on activities to discover the potential of each test from the TOD.
