Homeless Education Liaison Training




This training is for District Homeless Education Liaisons and related professionals regarding policies and services for students in homeless/unaccompanied living situations. Through discussion, PowerPoint slides, and handouts, the presenter will cover the following topics:

1. McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act
2. Texas Education Code
3. Responsibilities of the local liaison 
4. Responsibilities of district administrators 
5. Definition of homelessness and definition of unaccompanied youth
6. Immediate enrollment requirements
7. School-of-origin issues
8. Transportation requirements 
9. Dispute resolution
10. PEIMS coding

Important Session Information:


The afternoon portion of today's training will be a very engaging and informative presentation from ESC Region 12 Education Specialist, Jeannine Wolf. Her presentation will demonstrate the effects of poverty, stress, and trauma (as can often be associated with homelessness) on the brain. Participants will also learn strategies for working with youth who have experienced these events.
